Chanel’s hike calendar, checked

Everyone knows Chanel raises prices in March and September. We laid the last four reported rounds against that rule, and exactly one lands in either month.

The Worth the Bag team, 31 Oct 2026

March and September. Ask anyone who has ever hovered over a Classic Flap and they will give you those two months with the confidence of a tide table.

The rule did not come from nowhere. In December 2024 PurseBop wrote: “Historically, Chanel hikes prices twice annually (typically around March and September).” It also reported that Chanel’s finance chief had confirmed in May 2024 that the house would keep to twice-yearly rises. Then, in the same article, it noted that Chanel had just skipped the autumn rise for the second year running. So the rule was already wobbling on the day it was written down.

Here is what has happened since. One warning first: we found no official Chanel announcement for any of these rounds, so every date below comes from trade publications comparing price lists.

The last four rounds

Date What moved Reported by
4 to 5 August 2025 Classic line, 2.55, Chanel 22, Chanel 19 and Boy. Chanel 25 unchanged. PurseBop dates it 4 August for the US; Bragmybag says 5 August
November 2025 Chanel 25 PurseBop, without an exact day
2 April 2026 Classic Flap and other established lines. The newest styles largely unaffected. PurseBop, Bragmybag
22 September 2026 Maxi Flap, Mini Flap and all four Chanel 25 sizes. Classic Flap not mentioned. PurseBop, a single source

The sizes were modest in Europe. Bragmybag lists the medium Classic Flap going from €10,300 to €10,500 in April. PurseBop’s September table has the Chanel 25 Small going from €6,000 to €6,300.

The score

Four rounds in under fourteen months, and none of them in March. April comes close: PurseBop compares prices on 30 March with prices on 2 April, which believers will say is near enough. Allow it and two of the four fit the rule. August and November appear nowhere on the calendar at all.

On a strict count the rule is right once in four attempts. A calendar with that record is a horoscope.

There is one calendar per bag

The more useful finding is that these rounds did not touch the same bags.

If you were watching a Classic Flap, your price moved in August 2025 and in April 2026. That is eight months apart, as PurseBop itself pointed out, and neither month is one of the famous two. The September round, the only one to land on the rule, does not appear to have been about your bag.

If you were watching a Chanel 25, the pattern looks different. It was left alone in August 2025, rose in November, and rose again in September 2026.

Two people waiting for “the Chanel hike” could therefore have lived through different years.

Markets do not always march together either. In September 2024 Jing Daily, writing mainly about China, reported a second rise of the year, while PurseBop’s December piece described a skipped autumn. In April 2026 PurseBop noted the Preppy Coco line going up in the EU while the US stayed put “for now”, and Bragmybag listed Switzerland, Sweden and the Czech Republic with no change on the medium Classic Flap. We look at what that does to the map in where a bag is really cheaper in Europe.

What the record lets us say

It lets us say that Chanel has raised prices repeatedly over the last two years, more often than twice in some twelve-month stretches, and on a schedule the public cannot see in advance. It does not let us say when the next round comes or how large it will be. Nobody outside Chanel can honestly tell you that, and the rumour that arrives two weeks before a round is not the same thing as knowing. We print no forecast, because we would be making it up.

The practical advice is dull and it works: follow the bag, not the month. Our price hikes page records each confirmed rise by bag, market and date, so you can see how your particular model has behaved and ask to be told when a brand moves again.

If waiting for March was your plan, the last two years offer little support. If buying before September was your plan, the same record applies. The months are folklore with a good source. The dates in the table above are all you can rely on, and they only ever tell you about the past.
