About this bag

The name records a date: February 1955, when Gabrielle Chanel introduced the original shoulder bag. Chanel reissued it in 2005 for its 50th anniversary, and that is the version the house sells today. Where the Classic Flap has the CC lock, the Reissue keeps the rectangular Mademoiselle turn-lock and an all-metal chain, often paired with aged calfskin and its slightly crinkled finish. Sizes are numbered rather than named. It is sold new only in Chanel boutiques, which is why this page tracks the boutique price with its source and date instead of retailer offers. Preloved values move with the leather, the hardware finish, the size, how well the corners and chain have aged, and whether the original box, dust bag and receipt come with it.

Questions

Where is the 2.55 Reissue sold new?

Chanel sells it new only in its own boutiques; no department store or online retailer carries it. For that reason the New section has no shop link. It shows the boutique price we have recorded for your market, together with the source and the date of the check.

Is the 2.55 Reissue worth buying preloved, and what do the grades mean?

Preloved listings on this page are sorted into New with tags, Excellent, Very good, Good and Fair. For a Reissue, check the Mademoiselle lock for scratches, the metal chain for tarnish or stretched links, and the corners of the flap. A complete set with box, dust bag and receipt is easier to authenticate. The Preloved section shows the cheapest listing per grade.

What affects the resale value of a 2.55 Reissue?

Aged calfskin is the classic material, and it hides light wear better than smooth lambskin. Colour, hardware finish and size come next, followed by condition and completeness. Because the Reissue is only sold through Chanel's own boutiques, availability there also feeds into what sellers ask. The retention figure on this page reflects current listings.

What does the true cost figure for the 2.55 Reissue mean?

It is the best new price in your market minus the expected resale value of an Excellent-condition Reissue. We estimate that value from the median EU asking price of Excellent-or-better listings in the past 90 days, as a share of the German boutique price. Shown as a three-year total and per year. These are asking prices, not sold prices, and no forecast.
