About this bag
Louis Vuitton introduced the Speedy in 1930, at first under the name Express, and the basic form has barely changed since: a soft body, a zipped top, two rounded handles and a padlock. It comes in numbered sizes such as 25 and 30, and the Bandoulière version adds a detachable shoulder strap so it can be worn across the body. Most examples are in Monogram or Damier coated canvas, with leather versions appearing in the collections as well. New, it is sold in Louis Vuitton stores, on the brand's website and through 24S, the house's only authorised third-party seller. Preloved Speedys are listed in large numbers and from many decades, so condition and size explain much of the spread in asking prices.

What should I look for in a preloved Speedy?
Check the grade first: New with tags, Excellent, Very good, Good or Fair. Then look at the handle tabs and the piping along the seams, which take the most strain, the zip pull and the corners of the base. A Bandoulière should come with its strap, and the padlock and keys should be included. Older pieces are common, so judge the leather trim on its own merits.
What affects the Speedy's resale value?
Size and version: demand moves between the smaller and larger numbers over time, and a Bandoulière without its strap loses part of its appeal. Core canvases trade more steadily than limited prints. Cracked piping, darkened handles and a missing padlock pull asking prices down, and the Preloved section shows how far, grade by grade.
How do you work out the true cost of a Speedy?
Start with the cheapest new Speedy available in your market, then subtract the expected resale value of an Excellent example. That value is the median EU asking price of Excellent-or-better listings from the last 90 days, taken as a share of the German retail reference. The result is shown for three years and per year, and only when at least 10 listings support it.
