Om väskan
The Alma is Louis Vuitton's structured dome bag: a rounded top, two short handles, a zip closure and a padlock with keys. Where a Neverfull or a Speedy slumps, the Alma holds its shape, which makes it one of the more formal bags in the line. It has been made in Monogram canvas, in Epi leather with its fine horizontal grain and in glossy Vernis patent leather, among other materials. Sizes include the small BB and the larger PM. New, it is sold through Louis Vuitton stores and the brand's website, and at 24S, the only authorised third-party seller. On the resale market the rigid shape cuts both ways: corners and the base show wear quickly, and a bag that has lost its structure is hard to hide.

What should I check on a preloved Alma?
Listings are graded from New with tags through Excellent, Very good and Good to Fair. On an Alma, check the four corners of the base and the piping, which rub first on a rigid bag, and whether the shape still stands up on its own. Vernis can discolour or pick up dye transfer, and Epi edges can scuff. Padlock, keys, any strap, dust bag and receipt make the set complete.
